Food & Practice
I often hear people say if they start practicing yoga they might have to quit meat, processed food, and alcohol - completely change their whole diet. Sometimes, those reasons are enough to stop people from even beginning.
But I think if you want to practice yoga just start it right now, you don’t have to become a stone-sober vegetarian to practice yoga. You don’t have to change all your habits in one night.
I’m not saying to have a healthy life style is not important while doing yoga. My point is just listen to your body. If you practice constantly, over time you will want to give up your negative diet. There is a saying from Swami Sivananda, “Purity of mind depends on purity of food.”
To help you on your way to better eating, below is a dessert recipe I saw the other day from “Yoga Mind & Body”. If you interest in cooking, try it see if you like it.
Stuffed Baked Apples (a tasty, warming winter dessert)
INGREDIENTS:
- 6 large apples
- 50 g(2 oz)raisins and/or chopped dates
- 50 g(2 oz)chopped walnuts or sesame seeds
- 60 ml(2.5 oz)apple juice
- Yoghurt to serve(optional)
DIRECTIONS:
- Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark4.
- Core, but do not peel the apples.
- Place them on a baking tray.
- Combine the raisins and/or dates, walnuts or sesame seeds, and apple juice.
- Fill the cored centre of each apple with some of the raisin mixture, until the mixture is used up.
- Bake the apples in the oven for about 50 minutes, but do not over-cook.
- Serve hot, with yoghurt if you wish.

That’s a very good point Maggie! Actually that’s the key to almost everything. However, sadly, it’s not easy.
Take for example “being fat”. There is no such thing, it doesn’t exist. There is not a “fat” person in the world. However some people think of themselves as “fat”. And they try to change their diet - but without success. Or maybe they have less weight afterwards, but still look a bit “out of shape” (think of all the poor white women with an upper body so thin like they are starved but with a bottom/legs that looks too big).
But if they would look closer, if they would listen to their body, they would find out they have some swolen organs, to much bowls in their intestines, disfunctional movement patterns, parasitic muscle activiation, unbalanced flexor/extensor interaction and so on.
So it would be easy to change that, but if a person cannot see “what is there”, or feel, or listen, as you put it, they have no chance for change. Instead they have to listen to rules and guidelines, and they have to be lucky to draw something that is right for them.
Nice recipe, btw, I wish I had a friend with an oven!

Hi Alfons, thank you for your comment.
I agree with you. I think every person is different, we can’t use one standard to judge everybody. We don’t need magazine or TV to tell us we are fat or slim. The only person knows us in this world is ourselves.
Fat or slim is just how you look on the outside, if we feel healthy and happy then we don’t have to care about other people’s option too much.
At the end of the day, we just have to be honest with ourselves.

I as well as my guys were actually reading through the nice procedures from your website and then all of the sudden came up with a terrible feeling I never expressed respect to you for those techniques. These young men were for that reason very interested to read all of them and have quite simply been having fun with those things. We appreciate you really being indeed considerate and then for going for varieties of remarkable things most people are really needing to understand about. Our own sincere regret for not saying thanks to earlier.
